The current Huawei Mate X foldable phone sports a display which unfolds from one side. According to a new patient, Huawei tech giant is also intending to develop a design including the dual-side foldable screen.
On 31 May, World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) announced a new Huawei patent named “Foldable mobile device”, which reveals a new type of folding, since the patent was illustrated and spotted by LetsGoDigital.
As per the new patent, the screen of this foldable phone unfolds in the similar mechanism of the Huawei Mate X but from both sides and its center part is still active while the phone is folded.
It is known that Huawei filed 3 models patent in total. The 1st model will have widescreen bezels housing home button, camera and sensors on the top and the bottom of the phone. The 2nd one will only have a top bezel which houses one camera and necessary sensors.
The 3rd one is more modern with a full-screen design without edges at all. Its screen expands from front to right and left. And when being folded, its display covers the whole rear sides.
As per the patent documentation, the flexible display on the phone is held in place by magnets. The handset also relies on 2 hinges, so that the hinges can offer extra support for the screen when the device is folded out.
Currently, it is confirmed that Huawei will produce these above designs, however, the production is likely to begin in the coming time.
While this new phone sounds interesting, Huawei is facing a lot of pressure at present. The U.S ban greatly affects the company’s business. According to Bloomberg’s new report, this Chinese tech giant will have a 60% decline in international smartphone shipments. It seems to hit a huge blow on Huawei when this company runs about 50% of its phone business outside the home market.
