HTC Could Be Retreating The Chinese Market In The Coming Time

Anita

After leaving the Indian smartphone market, HTC probably is showing signs of quitting the Chinese market as well in the coming time.

There has been no certain information on how much the phone making division of HTC was left after Google acquired its employees and assets. And HTC seems to be currently paying more attention to the VR. It is known that the company left the Indian phone market last July and it probably exits the Chinese market soon.

As per the latest report, they are not selling any devices on Tmall or JD.com. And its Weibo account states that this decision was made after carefully considering its business strategy in the long term for the market here. At present, it remains to sell devices via Shenzhen-based VIVE flagship physical store and its official store. But, the handsets like the U11/U11+ are no longer available on the latter anymore, therefore, it may not be long until it is closed.

While there has been no official information, this may be the initial step in its China full retreat. HTC is obviously downsizing its operations in the smartphone division, which can be seen through its very small quantities of smartphones it introduced last year or its product availability which is increasingly limited in some markets, and how late it updates the Android 9.0 Pie.

It seems that HTC is not ready to leave its mobile division worldwide. Currently, it is still working on the successor to the last year's Exodus blockchain phone and a 5G mobile smart hub which will go on sale in Australia, North America, and Europe soon.

For further information, Google acquired HTC’s design team for US$1.1 billion last January. HTC gave up a substantial majority of its R&D division in the deal. This move marks Google’s substantial expansion of hardware efforts. It is known that the first-gen Pixel smartphones were designed by HTC under the direction of Google. Having the team of hardware designers of HTC could let the search engine giant take on almost preliminary work itself.
