It’s only a few days since the launch of Galaxy Fold, and the phone has already got a serious rival, Huawei’s Mate X. The Chinese giant unveiled its foldable phone at MWC 2019, in Barcelona. The pair both unfold into a tablet and support 5G networks with eye-watering prices and official release later in 2019.
And that’s all of what they have in common. Now comes the difference, and there’s a lot of it.
Two screens and one screen
While the Galaxy Fold has one smaller outer screen and a larger inner screen, the Mate X makes use of a single screen in three ways depending on how users hold the device.

Mate X
Samsung’s foldable phone is like a book, whose largest screen is inside with one of its outside covers as a smaller screen. Its smaller screen is 4.6 inches large, and the larger one is 7.3 inches.
Meanwhile, Huawei’s foldable device is made with an opposite approach; its screen hugs the frame. When unfolded, the screen is 8 inches large, and when folded, the phone features a 6.6-inch front display and a 6.38-inch rear display. The smaller screens switch to lit up when users turn the device.
Notch and wings
The Galaxy Fold sports a pretty long eyebrow-like notch on its larger display. This notch houses dual cameras sensors and lenses.
The Mate X doesn’t have a notch, allowing it to have a full screen, but it has a thick rail to house the cameras as well as a curved wing to act as a handhold.

Six and Four Cameras
The Galaxy Fold has six cameras in total, including three rear cams, two front0facing cams, and the other on its cover.
The Mate, however, has four cameras all placed on the rail. While the unveiled model shows only three, Huawei CEO claims there will be four of them when the company launches the phone later this year.

Galaxy Fold
4G and 5G
The Galaxy Folds supports both 4G and 5G networks, but the Mate X enables only 5G.
Price tag and sale date

Mate X
Hopefully, we’ll see more budget foldable phones in the coming time, because both prices of the Galaxy Fold and Mate X are sky scrapper.
The former is priced at $1,980, and the latter is sold at $2,600.
Samsung’s Galaxy Fold will be available for sale in selected markets, including the United States. But the Mate X won’t be on sale before June, and it won’t come to the US market.
