The number of app download in 2018 reached 113 billion in 2018 and customers spent around $76 billion on mobile apps on both Google and Apple's app stores.
App analytical company, App Annie reported that the number of app download increased to 113 billion this year and that is a 10 percent rise over 2017. The spending on app figure also went up to more than $76 billion, and that is a 20 percent increase from last year. The statistics were collected from both the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store through 15 December 2018. And unsurprisingly, consumers spend most of their money on mobile games. App Annie predicts that the consumer spending on mobile apps, including Chinese third-party stores, will go up to $122 billion.
Before jumping to the more detailed statistic, it is worth noting that these figures are from the beginning of the year to 15 December 2018. They also don’t include third-party apps store in China which can even boost the figures much higher. App Annie will release a full “State of Mobile” report in January next year.
In 2018, a smartphone user spent an average of three hours per day using mobile apps, increasing 10 percent from 2017 and 20 percent from two years ago. Facebook Messenger, Facebook, and Whatsapp claimed the first and second position in non-app install number in both Google and Apple app stores combined. Behind the three Facebook's apps is the rising Tiktok with the fourth position. Another Facebook’s app, Instagram, stayed on the fifth place.
Regarding download number, Love Balls, Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Subway Surfers, and Helix Jump ranked from fifth to the first place.
The top mobile game that customers spent the most money on was Fate/Grand Order while the following two to fifth positions belong to Honour of Kings, Monster Strike, Candy Crush Saga, and Lineage M.
When it comes to revenue on both Google and Apple app stores, Netflix topped the chart with Tinder in the second place. The third, fourth and fifth places belong to Tencent Video, IQIYI and Pandora Music, respectively.
