Your Kids Can Now Listen To Bedtime Stories Via Google Assistant

Just in time for National Tell a Story Day, Google is bringing "bedtime stories" feature to Google Assistant on Android and iOS phones.

Back in 2017, Google Assistant on Google Home devices got a new feature: reading bedtime stories for kids. Prior to National Tell a Story Day on April 27, there are now more ways for youngsters to listen to bedtime tale.

The feature will be available in English on Android and iOS phones in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and India.

All you have to do for Google to start its bedtime story session is by saying “Hey Google, tell me a story” to listen to tales like Robot Rampage (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Let’s Be Firefighters! (Blaze and the Monster Machines), Little Red Riding Hood and Sleeping Beauty. Ask Assistant to read a bedtime story to bring your kids to dreamland. But to be able to use this feature, you need to install Google Play Books’ latest version.

It complements other book features such as “read along” option which will activate Home smart speakers’ sound effects when you read aloud some books. These effects work with Ara the Star Engineer written by a Google engineering manager and Disney Little Golden Books like Toy Story 3 and Coco, which aims to provide kids with knowledge technology and computers. Book selections for this feature remain limited.

Audiobooks from Google Play can also be read. For example, you have Charlotte’s Web book and want Google Assistant to read it for you. You just simply need to say, “Hey Google read Charlotte’s Web.” If you do not own this book, the assistant will give you a sample and you can purchase the full book from Google Play.
