Rolls Royce To Make The Fastest Electric Aircraft In The World
Harin - Jan 08, 2019
Rolls Royce is building what is supposed to be the fastest electric airplane in the world which can reach 480 kilometers per hour.
Rolls Royce wants to put its name in history. On Wednesday, the industrial technology company of Britain made an announcement on the company’s plans to launch what is called an in-development electric plane flying over Great Britain in 2020. The airplane’s maximum speed can reach 480 kilometers an hour.

If this plans came through, it would break the current set record for all-electric planes which was 337 kilometers per hour. Moreover, it could also bring a new beginning of “electrification” for air travel around the world.
As stated in the announcement of Rolls Royce, the electric airplane belongs to an initiative which is funded by the UK government called ACCEL. ACCEL is the abbreviation of “Accelerating the Electrification of Flight.”
Inside the aircraft, there will be three high-power-density electric motors which are designed to generate over 500 horsepower. 90 percent of energy efficiency will reportedly be delivered through the airplane’s all-electric powertrain.
The battery pack that gives the craft power will have 6,000 cells. And according to Rolls Royce, the battery pack of this airplane will be the most energy-dense one. With this, the aircraft can fly a nonstop flight from England’s capital, London to Paris. However, it is not disclosed as what speed the airplane will be flying at.

According to Rolls Royce’s ACCEL Project Manager, Matheu Parr:

Writing its name in the records books is not the only goal for Rolls Royce. The company is confident that it can put the knowledge gained from the project into use and produce other all-electric airplanes, which can play a significant role in the fight against climate change.
