Late Wednesday, Facebook and its photo-sharing platform Instagram were down and that has been going on for over eight hours. Since around 9 AM PT (7 PM local time), the platforms have been down, tracking site Down Detector reported. Several users then went on Twitter to share that they saw a message saying that the platform is down for maintenance.

Other users on the platform were making attempts to post status updates on the network, but all they got was a message reading “something went wrong.”

The social giant confirmed the outages.

A spokesperson of the company wrote that the company acknowledged that some users cannot access Facebook's mobile apps but it's working to fix that as fast as possible.

The outage affected users of these platforms across the globe, including Europe, the US, Asia, South America, and Australia, as stated by Down Detector. Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp also saw its users’ reports of troubles in sending images on their apps. Another company owned by Facebook, which is VR company Oculus, also said that its users couldn’t access or use the platform.

Meanwhile, the social giant is also having issues with its ad product, from which most of its revenues come.

The social giant hasn’t revealed the cause of this outage, but its Wednesday tweet claimed that there was no DDoS attack (denial-of-service), in which hackers attempt to shut down a site by overload it with too much traffic.

Previously, in November, Facebook users also experienced an outage due to a test by the company. That one lasted for around 40 minutes. Also in that month, Instagram and Facebook were down for hours and the reason, according to the company, was a server configuration.
