Apple may take a lot of time to bring the latest 5G iPhones to users. Although the iPhone maker and its chip maker Qualcomm have settled down their dispute that lasted two years, users will have to wait one or two years to see the desirable handset by their naked eye.
According to a report from Nikkei, iPhone models in the future will be kept using 5G chips manufactured by Qualcomm. However, at least in 2019, Apple won’t have enough time to equip its new smartphones with these modern chips. In the report,
The dispute with Qualcomm pushes the Cupertino-based company back in the race of 5G smartphone development that Huawei and Samsung are taking part in. Besides, two other companies including OnePlus and Xiaomi have announced that they would roll out 5G smartphones in the next few weeks.
The primary reason why Apple decided to settle down the dispute with its chip maker is reportedly due to the ongoing 5G race. In addition, Intel has recently made an announcement on giving up developing chips for 5G iPhones.
Intel stated that the company didn’t see “profitability and positive returns” in the business of smartphone modem development. According to Bob Swan, the CEO of Intel,
Some previous reports pointed out Apple had shown its concerns that Intel wouldn’t be able to meet the 5G modem manufacturing progress for iPhone models in 2020. Moreover, the iDevice maker is allegedly working on 5G chips by itself; however, at least in 2021, the finished product will come to the public. In the past, the company even considered importing 5G chips from MediaTek and Samsung.
