Google's Drone Delivery Service Is Coming Soon

Google's parent company, Alphabet, is scheduling to expand its plan of delivery service launching by commercial drone in Canberra, Australia. This plan called Project Wing, which will be the first paid service using Drone for commodities distribution in the world, according to ABC News.

Though drone units are ready for flights in June, Alphabet has to consider their next steps. They may be stuck in a conflict with local residents, who are getting angry with sky invasion of drones.  Canberra residents are not welcome a plan that could rearrange their life, which is not the way they want to.

Strong reactions from Residents

Agree to disagree, Alphabet service could bring conveniences. Food, drinks, and medication are most likely packages will be dropped to customer’s houses.

But it seems not enough to Canberra residents. They are concerned about living among the drones that they would never see before.

Prof. Roger Clarke from ANU have criticized some disadvantages as well as potential threatens of drone operations when they lose communications. The Australian scholar said that they should be applying the precautionary principle and getting out ahead of the drone service problem.

Improvements and Promises

A quieter version of delivery drone got tested recently as a part of Alphabet movement. CEO of Project Wing, James Burgess has confirmed to the Canberra Times that they were trying to be as transparent and as open as they could.

But Canberra residents have doubts about solutions. Prof. Clarke has warned visible disruption would be "beaten down" by public opinion if corporations did not bring the public along.
