These tools process vast amounts of data from over 150 sources, including satellite imagery, drone feeds, and intelligence reports, to identify potential targets in real-time.

AI's applications extend beyond targeting. It aids in logistics by optimizing supply chains, predicting maintenance needs, and managing resources efficiently. Natural language processing and computer vision models help analyze communications and visual data, allowing commanders to make informed decisions faster than ever before. Admiral Brad Cooper, head of CENTCOM, emphasized that AI enables warfighters to "sift through vast amounts of data in seconds" to outpace the enemy.

 

The Strikes and Their Impact

The US-led strikes utilized a combination of B-2 bombers, fighter jets, cruise missiles, and drones to hit Iranian military installations, including airfields and command centers. AI-assisted planning compressed the traditional "kill chain" the sequence from target identification to strike from days to minutes, resulting in nearly 900 strikes in the first 12 hours alone.

However, this integration has not been without controversy. Reports indicate significant civilian casualties, including a strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school in southern Iran, where outdated intelligence led to the deaths of at least 168 people, mostly children. Iranian officials report over 1,300 deaths, with more than 400 women and children among them. Critics argue that while AI enhances efficiency, it relies on the quality of input data, and errors can have devastating consequences.
