You Can Still Use Wireless Headphones Without Bluetooth, Here Is How

The good news is, you can still connect wireless headphones to another device without Bluetooth, but it comes with some requirements

Back in 2016, Apple excluded the headphone jack from all of its handheld devices, a real nuisance for those who have got accustomed to using wired headphones. Whether you like it or not, wireless headphones are now the only choice for most smartphone models now.

These headphones rely heavily on Bluetooth to work, which brings us to the question of what to do if it is not available. The good news is, you can still have a wireless connection without Bluetooth, but it comes with some conditions.

What Makes Wireless Headphones Work?

Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard that makes use of UHF radio waves with short wavelengths to send and receive data between two Bluetooth-enabled devices.

In each handheld device, today is a computer chip that contains the radio and Bluetooth software. The technology also allows you to connect to more than one device at a time.

To make sure that the wireless headsets can stay connected to the handheld device, some requirements must be met.

Wireless headphones must be charged and on before a Bluetooth connection can be formed. Plus, the two devices must be compatible to be able to connect.

Are There Wireless Headphones Without Bluetooth?

Nowadays, there are headsets that can work with TVs without Bluetooth; they are called dedicated wireless headphones. They have a base station that can be plugged into TVs through a 3.5mm analog jack. Unlike Bluetooth headsets, these dedicated headphones use a radio frequency to transfer data.

So this answers the question of whether there are wireless headsets that can work without Bluetooth. However, are these dedicated headsets as effective as their Bluetooth counterparts?

Wireless Headphones Vs. Wireless Bluetooth Headphones

The main purpose of a pair of wireless headsets is to enable users to listen to sounds without a cord connecting the two devices. They are so diverse that you will have several choices when it comes to range, convenience, and operation.

Here are the differences between Bluetooth and dedicated wireless headphones:

The range of connectivity

Bluetooth, on the other hand, has a shorter range of only 9 meters

Dedicated wireless headsets have a long-range connection of up to 91 meters, allowing you to go stay away from your TVs but still stay connected. Bluetooth, on the other hand, has a shorter range of only 9 meters. However, the connection between both of them can be interrupted if there are obstacles between the two devices.

Ease of use

Dedicated wireless headphones usually go with TVs or other devices that do not have Bluetooth technology. But with Bluetooth-enabled headsets, they can be used for a wide range of other devices, as long as they are compatible.

The technology has become so common that most devices on the market nowadays have it. Bluetooth devices are also portable and can be brought anywhere as they have no base station.

Affordability

Dedicated wireless headsets usually come with a higher price than their Bluetooth counterparts

Dedicated wireless headsets usually come with a higher price than their Bluetooth counterparts. So if you do not have a deep pocket, the latter is a better choice as there are so many options at different price points to choose from.

Design

Dedicated wireless headsets are usually bulky, a setback for those who want something lightweight and portable. Bluetooth headphones and earbuds nowadays come with benefits like ear tips for a better fit, water-resistant ability, and also microphone. Not to mention virtual assistant and seamless integration to users’ smartphones. All of these benefits, plus the good price, make Bluetooth headsets the ideal choice for most users.

So if you care a lot about how your headphones or earbuds look on you, Bluetooth devices are the better choice in most of situations.

Sound quality

Wired headphones are still the best choice when it comes to sound quality

Wired headphones are still the best choice when it comes to sound quality, but Bluetooth technology has had so much development in the last few years that the quality of sounds has had a big leap compared to those released a few years ago.

Popularity

Those who have an interest in wireless headphones and audiophiles may have heard of the latest truly wireless headsets of Samsung or Apple but not many people know about dedicated wireless headsets exist.

The market also leans toward the Bluetooth side so you will find yourself short of choices when it comes to dedicated wireless headphones.

The Future

No one can be sure about the future but judging the focus of manufacturers, popularity, ease of use, and price, Bluetooth headsets are having an obvious edge over the other option.

However, let’s wait and see what happens.

Is There A Way To Use Wireless Headphones Without Bluetooth?

Some Bluetooth headphones have a micro-SD card slot, in-built FM radio function, and aux connection so you can definitely use them on their own

You can definitely use wireless headphones without Bluetooth, but that ability will depend on the types of headsets you use. Here are your options:

Option 1: Dedicated wireless headsets use radio frequency to transmit data so they allow you to listen to sound played from another device without Bluetooth.

Option 2: Some Bluetooth headphones have a micro-SD card slot, in-built FM radio function, and aux connection so you can definitely use them on their own. There are a few catches though. Receiving calls and listening to music from your smartphone is out of the question as they require a connection between the two devices, which you do not have.

However, if your wireless earbuds or headphones have none of these above features, there is no way it can be used without Bluetooth.
