Technology has got its footprints further in the world of music. On Tuesday, 166-year-old piano maker Steinway & Sons introduced its Spirio | r, a high-tech piano that allows people to record, play back, and edit their own tunes through the Spirio app on iPad. The instrument is also able to play itself, releasing real acoustic sounds.
Pianist Jon Batiste from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert performed at the launch event or Spirio | r on Tuesday night
Ron Losby, Steinway’s CEO and President said:
The launch event took place at the Steinway Hall in New York with pianist Jon Batiste from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert performing to illustrate the capability of Spirio I r. First, the pianist played and recorded a piece of Sam Cooke music to see whether or not the technology-integrated instrument can “capture the soulfulness.” The piano then played back the piece of music exactly how Batiste did, while he performed a melodica alongside.
Steinway Spirio pianos were launched back in 2015, users can open the Spiro app, choose a song then let the instrument play music on its own. With the new Spiro | r, users can also record a piece of music, the piano will play it back and even let them edit it.
Especially for those who practice at home, they can play back to listen to their own performance and improve the craft. Moreover, music lovers can have the piano reenact any masterpiece with excellent volume, dynamics, and sound quality.
The company offers the piano in Model B and Model D, but it hasn’t announced the price yet. The piano supports many file formats which include MP3, MIDI, and Spirio high resolution sampled audio.
