The Galaxy Home, Samsung’s smart speaker, has missed its releasing date without a proper explanation from the company. We do not know the exact day on which it will be launched or what caused the postponement.
Last year, when Samsung revealed news about the Note 9, the company also made the Galaxy Home known to the public. The speaker was supposed to share some similarity with Google’s Nest, Apple’s HomePod, and Amazone’s Echo. The most noticeable difference is that the device will run on Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant.
In its February event when it announced about the Galaxy Fold, which was also delayed indefinitely due to some problems with the display, the company said that the Galaxy Home would be released in April. But now in May, we have not seen any sign of the device and Samsung does not say why.
When asked about the Galaxy Home’s delayed launching date, Samsung said that it was “planning to launch Galaxy Home in the first half of 2019” and did not say anything else. So if it is serious about this new date, Samsung has another month to fix what is keeping the device from being released.
We do not know how big the market for this device is, but it is a difficult one to conquer, regarding the use of proprietary AI. Apple has always been a pioneer in many sectors but it also has difficulty being the market leader as its HomePod with Siri does not precisely yield the results the company wants. Only 600,000 HomePods were shipped around the time it was released, making up of about 6% of the total market.
As a result of this less-than-expected performance, Apple decided to cut the price of the device by $50. This move comes as no surprise as Apple unusually does it with any of its devices that do not get updated annually.
