You've presumably known about the famous robot Sophia thanks to her appearances on Cosmopolitan's cover and multiple TV shows.
Now it appears that Sophia is multiplying — or at least diversifying the brand.
On one of the episodes of "The Tonight Show" in later last year, Sophia introduced her very new younger sister called "Little Sophia". And last month, Hanson propelled a funding campaign for Little Sophia, saying she could teach children how to code.
This robot is quite small, standing only more than 30 centimeters with big eyes and no hair just like her older sister. Little Sophia can also do multiple tricks such as singing, dancing, playing games, telling jokes or tracking facial expressions.
Though designed as a toy-like product for children, her purpose is mainly for education.
Little Sophia has a wide range of features, from education to entertainment.
As indicated by the funding campaign, every Little Sophia accompanies an application that permits target clients — a kid who is as old as 7 to 13 years — to program her utilizing the Python and Blocky programming languages. They also hope that this robot can aid kids especially little girls to learn more about STEM and AI in an interactive and entertaining way.
Hanson set an objective of $75,000 for this campaign. As of this article, the amount of money pledged is more than $120.000 with 48 days to go, far more beyond their initial expectation.
A Little Sophia costs somewhere in the range of $99 and $149, regarding when it's ordered, and the company hopes that they can deliver their bots as soon as this December.
Little Sophia may not be the only robot for the educational purpose out there but with the reputation she has from her older sister, there's an opportunity the little robot may have a greater effect on not only children but also the up and coming age of robotics.
