A diver usually has to take lots of equipment along, which may tamper with the fun. If they want to document the dive, the minimal tools needed are a compass, a dive computer, and a camera. This much equipment can be heavy and hard to wield underwater.
To solve this problem of cumbersomeness, DIVEROID is running a project on Kickstarter to lower the price of all these tools. What they have in mind is a special case equipped with an app and a dive computer that can turn a smartphone into a video camera.
The dive computer will determine the time it takes to ascend as well as the temperature by measuring the duration and the depth.
The smartphone inside the case will be in charge of taking photos or recording the dive. The case can be used with most smartphones on the market today and it has three buttons for divers to run the whole thing.
The app will control the phone’s camera during the journey. The options users have are video recording, selfie, zoom, ultra-wide angle, and wide-angle. As water can filter the red wavelength, the case also offers a red filter to compensate for that loss.
The case can support a dive to up to 60 meters. As it keeps track of the whole journey, users will know which picture was taken at what depth. They can also share the images and videos in the form of logbooks through the app. Whenever the divers need a boat to return, the app can send a message for them with the exact location of the divers.
The case is made from strong material and it also has a heat sink to prevent fog from accumulating inside.
The project is still on Kickstarter but it has already gained more than the fund it needs, which speaks volumes of how demanded a product like that is.
