Petty on a next-level
Many studies on this matter have resulted in the same conclusion: robots will take over the jobs of many humans.
However, recently, Munich Technical University has conducted another study that focuses on automation. The result of the study indicates that most people would let a robot take their job instead of losing the job to another person.
Robot of envy
Nature Human Behaviour journal published this study on August 5. For this study, the researchers in Munich interviewed 300 people whether they would want a human or a robot to take their job. Only 37 percent of the people asked said human, while the other chose robot.
They also conducted a follow-up survey in which the researchers focused on how the respondents would feel if another person or robots replaced them. They found out that the former would impact one's self-identity than the latter.
The Expectations
Armin Granulo ( a researcher) has commented on this matter. He said that this result could be explained by the fact that most people do not think they could compete with robots. So it would feel better if they were to lose their job to a robot instead of a human being.
For a person, losing their job to another person could really impact their self-esteem. Since both are on the same level, losing would hurt a lot.
