Viewers Can Now Change TV Channels With Their Eyes

Comcast - a telecommunications firm introduced a new feature called Xfinity X1 eye control. This feature, pairing with the available eye-tracking systems, allows customers to use their own eyes in the way they use remote control. Viewers now can switch the channel, search for programs, or record a show just by their eyes.

The system is initially hoped to help viewers who are physically disabled to enjoy watching TV; however, this is just one small part of the bigger plan made by Comcast.

The Eyes Have It

As mentioned in Quartz, Xfinity X1 eye control shows the first serious and determined attempt by an American entertainment company in offering the customer's eye control feature. Moreover, Comcast is known to be the largest company in provide cable TV in America; thus, this new technology can change the way a large number of people watch television.

However, as said by the Vice President of Accessibility - Tom Wlodkowski, this was just the first step.

Also in Quartz, Comcast reportedly intends to add the eye-tracking systems to smart home services; therefore, customers can not only open the doors or turn on lights in their homes but also control the thermostat, just by using eyes.

With this technology, it’s easy to picture everyone, even people who are not physically disabled, using this feature too.
