Recently, the USS Boxer has taken down Iran's drone when operating in Strait of Hormuz. Apparently, they have used new technology to accomplished that task. According to the Wall Street Journal, this is the first time the US Navy has used the anti-drone system MADIS in the sea. MADIS is shorthand for Marine Air Defense Integrated System.
MADIS blocks off the communication line of the drone and makes it crashed by using jammers. In addition, some MADIS versions are capable of firing at drones. However, in the case of the Iranian drone, there was no evidence to show the US Army used MADIS to shoot down it.
We haven't got the announcement of Dendense Department on how exactly USS Boxer took down the drone yet. But MADIS was on the USS Boxer at that time.
On the 18th of July, U.S President Donald Trump has mentioned this incident. However, Iran has denied US President Donald Trump's statement when he said that the country has not lost any drones and the US may have ... fired its own drone.
New kind of warfare
This incident shows the changing warfare's nature. More and more, the US army is taking actions on their targets without even firing a bullet. Back in June, they reportedly cyber attacking the control system of Iranian missile. Theoretically, this would avoid igniting fiercer conflicts. But the question here is that if whether or not this incident would not escalate into conventional military actions. As we know it, Iran hasn't begun their counterattacks on the full-scale yet, but certainly, there are concerns about these "softer" actions could lead to fiercer reactions in particular circumstances.
While we mostly see news about drones in battlefields and other activities of the army, drones offer a wide range of applications for regular users, including capturing videos and pictures from above the ground. Indians have also adopted these uses, and here are camera drone prices in India.
