Ready To Be Launched
Should you ever think about having a mind-controlled drone for your own, your dream may come true with a launch for such a drone in a Kickstarter campaign next Tuesday.
This drone which you can control using your mind is a product of EEGSmart. This Chinese company main focus is on the improvement of BMI technology (brain-machine interface technology). Furthermore, according to a writer of New Atlas - Loz Blain, the one who got to experience the drone, “It’s not perfect, but it does give a glimpse of a mind-controlled future.”
Think About It
From what we learned from the draft version of this campaign, this new “smart” drone is approximately the size of an average palm. It can work in both interior and exterior environments. It also has an operating time that lasts up to 25 minutes tops (even though Blain indicates a time more approximate to seven or six minutes for every charge). Similar to most commercial drones, this one is also equipped with a special camera which can snap still photos and videos.
With about $150, you can own this drone but you can only control it through your mobile phone. However, if you choose the $282 package, you can also get a headset called UMind Lite. This headset lets you control the device with your mind.

Based on EEGSmart’s instruction: Focus on thinking about the drone taking off and it will do the exact same thing. This can happen due to an electroencephalography sensor placed in the UMind Lite which can monitor the activities of our brains. The other sensors let you control the drone in a variety of ways.
For example, you can tilt your head in a certain direction to make the drone move. Or blink twice to tell it to take a photo. Or maybe clench your jaw to make it land.
The draft page of the Kickstarter campaign, their goal is to raise $4,968, within only 45 days, at least. They also plan on delivering orders in April 2019.
Commercial Appeal
This is, apparently, not the only example of a mind-controlled drone. But this is among the first ones whose purpose is not for military use. Furthermore, it’s not necessary to have precise calibration to the brainwaves of any individual.
Blain made a note in the review stating that some of the controls for the Udrone are less-than-intuitive. He shared that he prefers a forward head tilt would move the Udrone in the same direction in contrast to the reverse configuration of it currently.
Nevertheless, the device still appears to work properly as advertised. Besides, it seems a lot like a fun example of brain-machine interface technology finding its place in the commercial market, supposing that EEGSmart is capable of meeting its fundraising goal.
