As reported by The Next Web, Dataminr, which is a New York-based risk detection firm, has just released its new AI being able to make predictions about the next COVID-19 hotspots in the UK and US through social media posts analyses.
It is written on the company’s website that their algorithm can base on a marked increase in COVID-19-related social media posts from reliable and authenticated accounts to identify the next pandemic spike roughly 7 and 15 days before the number of confirmed patients escalates.
In particular, they will track social media posts that contain the indication of people announcing they had positive results with COVID-19, people suffering from typical symptoms, people having been exposed yet tested, original accounts of official cases, etc.
Notably, The Next Web publicized Dataminr’s prediction of the next COVID-19 hotspots in 14 different states of the US, and it came true seven days after!
The CEO of the company, Ted Baily also told Business Insider that these kinds of posts, which had been filtered by Dataminr, are likely to be an obvious sign of the next sharp rise in the COVID-19 infection.
To some extent, this social media analysis to predict the disease outbreaks would be a great help in governmental preparation for the upcoming severe crisis.
However, these AI-enabled prophecies are not totally reliable, on the ground that no artificial intelligence available at this time could achieve results with 100 percent accuracy of the information posted online regarding people’s claims that they received positive results or had typical symptoms.
