A model S Tesla owner recorded and published on YouTube a video of thieves getting his car by hacking its passive system of entry. The video shows the crooks utilizing a tablet apparently to get the passive signal from the car’s key fob. Then, they used that data to get the vehicle open. There is an amusing development, though, as the pair did not drive off right away. It was because they just could not figure out the way to unplug the car.
The owner had sheepishly admitted that he did not use the newly implemented features from Tesla to deter these kinds of theft through the passive entry. He namely did not activate the feature “PIN for driving”. This feature will require another code before allowing you to drive the car. In addition, he also left the passive entry feature that makes the car open when someone possessing the fob walk near it enabled while the car was not parked in a garage. The owner also forgot to use “Faraday pouch” to keep the fob. This pouch would have not let the thieves get the fob’s signals.

When compared to models from other companies, vehicles from Tesla are a lot less likely to be stolen. However, it is likely that numerous recent thefts have been carried out in this fashion. Thus, if you want to leave a Tesla outside, you should enable the PIN for driving.
