This month saw one of the most important events for the tech world taking place in Barcelona, Spain: Mobile World Congress (MWC).
For a convention to share innovations, MWC Barcelona did not fall short of astonishing achievements. One of them is the introduction of the XR-1, an extremely agile robot taking after the appearance of a human. The firm behind this humanoid is INNFOS, a China-based company which has great confidence that what they are creating is the way forward for human-robot interaction.
XR-1 was able to greet, dance, answer questions, serve coffee, and even put a thread through a needle eye. The robot’s dexterity caught the attention of people at the conference.

Humanoids must be able to make accurate movements, stand firm against impact, and more importantly, meet safety rules to be considered suitable for assisting humans in their daily life. For these requirements, INNFOS believed that its Smart Compliant Actuator (SCA) ticks all the boxes.
The SCA is the most vital parts of any XR-1 humanoid and it appears at all of these robots’ joints. The Smart Compliant Actuator’s most noted feature is the integrated compliant joints that enable the robot to perform movements precisely and safely.
The fact that INNFOS had managed to achieve all of the demands has made SCA the most advanced actuators so far. Behind this success story lies the effort of the company’s R&D team to cope with several issues to adjust the actuators’ volume.
Whether the company’s SCAs can be the way forward or not is still something we have to wait to see. For now, let’s just say that the XR-1 is capable of movements that reach the closest approach to the dexterity of a human.
