Adani Electricity’s Explanation Of The Sharp Increase In Electricity Bills Mayn’t Satisfy Mumbaikars

The electricity consumers in Mumbai were dissatisfied with the sharp increase in their electricity bills.

Adani Electricity has recently received a notice from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) regarding the sudden increase in electricity bills. In this notice, MERC required the electricity group to give the public a reasonable explanation.

When Rajendra Ambekar, the executive director of MERC, sent a letter to Adani Electricity, he showed that consumers have been dissatisfied with the sharp increase in their electricity bills which have the apparent differences with the tariff hike approved by MERC. All of the reports regarding this matter are under MERC’s thorough consideration.

Within 24 hours, Adani Electricity must give a persuasive answer to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission. Besides, the company also needs to explain each detail of the matter, as well as point out practical solutions to ease the civilians.

The matter came to light when several Mumbaikars complained that, only in the last three months, the bills for utilities they were using have increased many times over those in the previous period.

Many consumers said the increase in electricity bills had spiked since a few months ago when Adani Group took over the business of Reliance Infrastructure (also known as RInfra). The Adani’s name has appeared two to three times on the bills.

The bills that made the civilians feel indignant originated from September and October. They were two months the consumers had to pay the highest bills ever. More particularly, the amount rose by two times compared to that in the RInfra era.

Adani Electricity stated that the company raises electricity prices due to its awareness of rising climate change in both October and November. This aims to help civilians to reduce electricity consumption.

Also, the company added that its new prices were according to the tariff approved by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission. However, its explanation is unlikely to meet the civilians’ satisfaction.
