As reported recently, Microsoft and Kroger were researching their own futuristic grocery store pilot to fight against Amazon's cashier-less stores. However, Caper Labs, a startup company, has developed further and turned that idea into reality with even more advanced features.

This smart shopping cart is made with a built-in barcode scanner and credit card swiper. But what makes it more valuable here is the small touchscreen that helps customers easily locate the store and discover nearby promotions or deals.

In reality, the scanner of the smart shopping cart now works as a device to read barcodes when you go shopping. The company, however, is on its way to complete all the process further, owing to its 03 image recognition cameras and a sensor to detect weight. With just three simple steps “Scan-Pay-Go", shopping is now much easier than ever.

Its brilliant idea does not only bring benefits to supermarkets and stores but also consumers. In respect of supermarkets and store owners, they can now save quite an amount of money by reducing the number of cashiers at the checkout. As buyers, you will no longer have to stand in line waiting to pay. According to Caper, some additional benefits include using the attached screen to map stores, being guided to nearby deals, and getting recipe suggestions.

In New York, two retailers have already installed the Caper's smart shopping cart, and both of them admit that using this type of shopping carts has positively affected their sales. When compared with Amazon Go, smart shopping carts seem to be a less ideal choice. However, it’s still a growing obsession since it’s extremely more convenient than other steps needed to run a store with countless weight sensors and cameras.
