Although the Indian government has issued a ban on porn websites, global portals all over the world have found an effective solution that allows them to keep providing pornographic videos legally to Indian watchers via computers and smartphones.
The Department of Telecommunications recently sent a letter to the Internet service providers concerning banning porn websites because the content posted on these sites violate the Article 19(2) of the Constitution, according to the provisions in Section 79(3)(b) in the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Accordingly, up to 857 websites that allegedly had “immoral and indecent” content were banned.
As two of these banned websites, Pornhub and Redtube have found a way to return the Indian market. More notably, watchers don’t need to use any trick to dodge the above ban whenever they want to pornographic videos.
Here are how these two porn portals apply: Redtube changes its domain name into redtube.net, and Pornhub into pornhub.org.
‘.org’ is the popular domain name extension of almost all of the non-profit organizations. Meanwhile, ‘.net’ is mainly used to indicate 'network' including email, internet, as well as networking service providers.
Because the Indian government has just banned the domain names with the ‘.com’ extension, watchers can still avoid this ban and access these porn websites on their devices. Using a VPN (virtual private network), proxies or alternative browsers is completely unnecessary.
In December 2018, the Department of Telecommunications directed the big telecom operators including Vodafone, Airtel, and Jio have issued a ban on websites that provide child pornographic content, as well as porn videos.
As a cyber law expert in India, Pavan Duggal, cyber-security laws should receive much more care. He said:
In a recent meeting, experts expressed their concerns about problems concerning cyber-crime, such as the growth of sex trafficking, sexting, child porn, cyber trolling, as well as violence Indian women have to face.
