This year’s E3 saw Opera releasing what it calls the “world’s first gaming browser.” This is basically a version of Opera that was customized to cater to gamers. The idea sounds a bit silly, but in reality, the gaming browser we are talking about packs some serious changes.
Opera calls the browser Opera GX, and one of its key selling points is the panel that lets users set RAM and CPU usage limits. This feature means a lot, especially for those who have a clear idea of what these restrictions can do to performance. You can also have information on how much CPU and RAM are used at certain moments.
Apart from the panel, there are some other additions that can appeal to gamers. News about tech, gaming, as well as deals on games will be displayed on the tab screen. As with a standard version of Opera, on the left-hand side of the screen, there will be a bar from which you can have access to several services and settings. You can also go to your Twitch subscription from there. Users will get a notification when a streamer streams live.
The lightning can be customized too. The base version will be black with icons and tabs highlighted with red. You have the choice to change the color to the one you like. Opera GX will also have sound effects, composed by the ones behind the soundtracks for Gris.
Other features include free VPN service, pop-up panels so that you can have quick access to WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, and an ad blocker.
Opera has been releasing different versions of its browser to gain more users or conduct experiments with new features. Most of them are not actually a success. Chrome is still the market leader, but this Opera GX might do one thing, putting the name Opera back on the map.
