NASA Plans To Take Female Astronauts To The Moon In The Mission 'Artemis'

NASA has announced on its new mission called Artemis to once again bring people to the Moon by 2024.

And this time, there will be the participation of a female astronaut. NASA brought the first humans to the Moon at the end of the 1960s with repeated missions in the 70s. And in all cases, just male astronauts set their footprints on the lunar satellite.

Jim Bridenstine, the NASA administrator said:

Bridenstine introduced the name of the upcoming mission as part of the new budget request of NASA. About US$1.6 billion is required to help the agency to get the program on its way. President Donald Trump’s current government has guided NASA to boost its mission.

According to Trump's tweet, the current budget would be updated to have an additional US$1.6 billion as requested. At present, the US government invests about US$21 billion on this agency.

Additional funding is expected to partly help to boost the innovation of vehicles in a bid to meet the demands of the upcoming mission. These vehicles comprise of the Space Launch System (SLS) - a powerful rocket, and a new spacecraft named Orion for carrying crew.

Accordingly, the SLS will carry the Orion to the deep space from the place it continues the mission to reach the Moon. The two vehicles will be tested by 2020; however, there has been no information about a certain launch date so far.

NASA has shown off that “this time we’ll stay” when demonstrating a future mission towards the Moon and felt optimistic about the development of the Moon-orbiting space station.

However, cosmologists have scaled down the space station plans called “Gateway” in an attempt to step on the Moon more quickly.

In spite of requesting for much money for the upcoming mission, NASA will not develop all needed tech by itself.

Mark Sirangelo, a special assistant and NASA administrator of NASA’s Moon to Mars campaign said in a press conference:

Instead of that, NASA will commercialize space exploration to reach its ambitious goals under the leadership of the government. Currently, the agency has already partnered with some private businesses to complete its mission targets.
