There have been several attempts to recreate Mars’s landscapes in different video games, but none of these can be as realistic as this latest joint creation from Blackbird Interactive and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Being in a human colony on Mars is exciting enough even if that vision is only in our mind, but now you finally have a chance to realize that dream and explore the red planet.
The game we are talking about is called Project Eagle which can be downloaded for free to PCs with Steam.
With this game, you will find yourself just under Mars’ equator, in a colony near Gale Crater.
However, this is not merely a game. Project Eagle conceals a more significant intention than just recreation. Through Project Eagle, users have the chance to immerse in a hopeful future where Mars colony is a real thing. The Eagle base is not a result of the imagination but built with feedback and guidance from JPL and NASA experts about material and technological limitations.
This simulation provides an ideal way for us to take a sneak peek into our future on Mars.
Other details of Project Eagle are as realistic as they can be. The Gale Crater, your home base in this game, is a real location discovered by NASA in August 2012. In the game, you will find a monument at the spot that NASA's Mars Curiosity Rover landed on to mark the day. These features are the results of NASA’s discovery.
To support life on the red planet, a Dome Complex is built in the game to create an Earth-like ecosystem where the colonists will live in.
Thanks to the Dome, colonists do not need space suits to survive. Several algae-ponds are constructed to provide citizens with oxygen and food.
So when colonizing Mars is still the matter of the future, you can take this opportunity to take a look at how living on Mars will be like with Project Eagle.
