Minecraft - The Best Selling Game Ever, Till Now 17.6 Crore Copies Sold

Three days ago was the official 10th birthday of Minecraft. And it is now the best-selling video game ever.

Microsoft's Minecraft is undoubtedly a game title that attracted all sort of players from casual kid players to those awesome concept builders. And from the figures, it seems like that Minecraft is the video game with the most copies sold - ever.

From an announcement of Microsoft through Xbox Wire to celebrate many years in the existence of the game, Microsoft has announced the sales figures of the game is since its release until that day is above 176 million game copies. That figure has made the game become the best-selling game title ever.

Minecraft vs Tetris

Note that one of Minecraft's closest rivals in term of copies sold is Tetris. From the figure of Windows Central, combine all the older version of Tetris we have a total number of around 70 million game copies. While EA has also published that they have sold more than 100 million game copies of the mobile version of Tetris, we don't count the downloads number of free-2-play version. There might be some small overlap, but then as we combine the two numbers Tetris still has fewer sales than Minecraft's. Another one on the board is Grand Theft Auto V. It is the most popular game in the franchise. And even so, it only has 110 million game copies sold since the release back in 2013.

In fact, we are not too surprised about that. Over the years, Minecraft has made its way to all the major platforms out there. They originally released the game on PC, then it comes to Xbox, Nintendo Switch, together with iOS and Android later on.

Minecraft Earth

To celebrate this important milestone, Microsoft said that they have prepared a surprise for the fans. They will release a new smartphone app for the game with the name of 'Minecraft Earth'. It gonna be a free-2-play game with augmented reality feature, kinda similar to Pokémon Go.

They plan to launch the closed beta campaign of Minecraft Earth this year for Android and iOS.
