Technology doesn't just help the national defence system become more modern, but it also brings benefits to terrorists. Typically as the development of drones, these devices are getting cheaper and cheaper and terrorists can use them to carry out some missions including acquiring major airports or finding out their target easier.
That's why the country's defense system must find a way to prevent these actions. According to the Wall Street Journal, anti-drone technologies are currently being researched by many weapon manufacturers, including Lockheed Martin and Boeing. The ability to fire heat-seeking missiles or laser cannons is considered to include into anti-drone systems.
In today's electronics market, the cost of drones is now very cheap and everyone can buy it. This seriously affects security and defence because people with bad intentions can use it to create a lot of different attack strategies. Experts say that in the next year sales of anti-drones will reach $1.2 billion and by 2021 it will reach $1.5 billion, according to WSJ.
Arthur Holland Michel, the co-director of Bard College’s Center, who specializes in drones, told WSJ that the danger of drones was seen by many and they were willing to try anything to stop it.
Boeing is currently collaborating with a contractor from China to produce an anti-drone device using flares to shoot them off the sky. Meanwhile, weapon manufacturer Lockheed Martin uses missiles to destroy these hi-tech products from the ground up.
In addition, WSJ also said that a company from Singapore is also developing a firearm capable of jamming the signals of drones to defeat it. Diehl Defense of Germany uses a system which can create high-energy explosions to neutralize any drone from a far distance.
Hakan Buskhe, executive director of the Swedish defence company Saab AB, told WSJ that the danger and threat of drones are becoming a huge problem for the national defence. Many governments around the world are discussing to give appropriate solutions for eliminating them from the sky.
