And after the Chandrayaan 2 orbiter, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has its eyes on Venus for the next big project.

Even though Chandrayaan 2 had a sad ending, it remains a phenomenal success for India. And after that well-loved orbiter, the Indian Space Research Organization has its eyes on Venus for the next big project.

This piece of news comes from scientists at ISRO and was first discovered by Space.com, during a meeting that took place this week in the US. There are plans set to orbit the plant and the space agency has pitched to getting approvals for this mission.

The spacecraft is expected to be built and launched within a few years. However, the challenge they’re facing is not only to land on Venus but also what’s on the planet.

ISRO scientist Nigar Shaji, who’s in work to make the project happen, said that they are focusing on mapping the surface and subsurface of Venus within one year. Furthermore, the space agency will also build a map of the surface as well as decipher the volcanic hotspots’ mysteries, which lie around the planet.

Onboard the orbiter will be about 16 instruments tasked with studying the atmosphere and the ionosphere of Venus. These include systems that monitor the clouds constantly to recognize lightning strikes.

In addition, scientists want to find out about the way this planet interacts with its neighboring environment. Plus, they expect the research to figure out the mystery behind the planet’s glowing as well as the measurement of the plasma particles.

If ISRO gets all the approvals as planned, it expects to launch the orbiter in June 2023, onboard the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicles, which was also used for launching the Chandrayaan 2. Besides, the space agency is working on another Mars mission, but it won’t happen before the Venus mission is accomplished.
