Gait Recognition Software Built By Pentagon Can Unlock Smartphones

While the fingerprint and face recognition has now become so popular and familiar, the new identification methods have been developed and far more advanced. Typically, the U.S Army is developing software on smartphones to be able to determine how you move and other biofeedback through integrated sensors.
As reported by The Washington Post, the Ministry of Defense is still in the process of testing this software and is expected to be completed in the next two months. The software will use the sensors on the mobile device to confirm the owner of the smartphone with gait, grip, typing patterns and other physical features which the sensor can recognize.
If this test ends successfully, this software will probably be included in most smartphones in the United States.
A scientist working at Pentagon’s Defense Information Systems Agency, Steven Wallace told the TWP newspaper that the original goal when they embarked on building and developing the software was commercial. He also said research projects such as the Internet and GPS were previously developed as military projects but later spread widely to society.
Wallace added that this development is not something as great as the Internet and GPS. As you can see although everything is researched for the first purpose for parts of the state, they are then brought to the hands of every citizen.
Everyone must have heard about technology that identifies citizen identities through their gait developed by companies in China. However, the technology that identifies America's gait is completely different from that of China. It is not a national surveillance system but it provides security for every individual who owns a smartphone. Moreover, it also brings a low cost for smartphone manufacturers.
When the software detects too many different movements, gait and other factors from the smartphone owner, it will lock the phone. This allows the owners to be able to use their phone normally but no one can do anything when their phone is forgotten or stolen.
