Facebook, Microsoft And WHO Come Together To Operate CO.VID-19 Global Hackathon

The world has been suffering catastrophic consequences created by the COVID-19 pandemic, and tons of solutions have been proposed to eradicate the disease, including a recently announced global hackathon where developers could create innovative software to battle this centurial challenge. Being a participant of the hackathon, WHO has cooperated with companies like Facebook and Microsoft. 

Additionally, the global hackathon has already attracted participation from many tech giants including Twitter, Facebook, Microsoft, Pinterest, Slack, Giphy, TikTok, and WeChat. These companies are willing to share resources to support participants during the submission. The hackathon namely “BuildForCovid-19” is now asking for applications and all the submissions will begin from 26th March 2020. On April 3rd, top projects will be publically announced. 

As introduced on the COVID-19 Hackathon page, this is an opportunity for all technicians to build software solutions that can create social impacts on the purpose of tackling the issues related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.  Innovators all around the world are encouraged to #BuildforCOVID19 using their own technologies in any range of suggested themes and challenge areas, some of which have been sourced through health companions including the WHO and experts at the Chan Zuckerberg BioHub. 

Furthermore, the COVID-19 hackathon has been put through with a myriad of partners, some of whom come from the World Health Organization, in order to obtain more valuable insight into the key challenge areas that technological innovations should aim at. Some themes listed on the hackathon portal are health, vulnerable population, businesses, community, education, and entertainment. Nevertheless, the participants are also encouraged to think out of the box to submit a totally new innovative solution.
