Elon Musk says that Neuralink has connected a chip to the brain of a monkey that it’s using to play video games with its mind. According to Musk, the startup is now developing brain implants to help those with paralysis to control devices through their thoughts.

He also said that the technology could help people communicated with their minds or save their brain state so that when they pass away, it can be uploaded to another body.

On Sunday, Musk provided a rare update on Neuralink. As in his description, the device is like “a Fitbit in your skull with tiny wires that go to your brain.”

“We’ve already got a monkey with a wireless implant in their skull and the tiny wires who can play video games using his mind.”

And in case people are concerned about the cables sticking into the monkey’s brain, Musk promised that it’s happy. According to Musk, an Inspector from the US Department of Agriculture called Neuralink’s lab the nicest monkey facilities she had ever seen in her career.

He also invited those having worked on advanced phones, robots, or wearables to apply for a job at his neurotechnology company.

As of now, its tests have been limited to primates and pigs, yet that did not prevent Elon Musk from anticipating the potential for humans.

“If two people had a Neuralink, you could do conceptual telepathy, where you have a complex series of concepts and you can just transfer them directly, uncompressed to the other person. This would massively improve the quality of communication and the speed of it. There are other pretty wild things that could be done. You could probably save state in the brain and so if you were to die your state could be returned in another human body or a robot body.”

He added that the tested implantation, removal, and reimplantation have been successful. Musk said Neuralink may soon publish new videos to show its progress.
