Previously, we have discussed the police force of China and how they have armed officers in certain cities with new technologies, including artificial intelligence as well as facial recognition.

And now, the same is happening to Delhi’s police force. The officers will receive a technology upgrade to catch up with the world.
1. Drones
This program started a couple nights ago on the occasion of the celebration of New Year 2019. It was reported that the Delhi police hired several commercial drones that are attached with cameras as an aid for guarding the streets and corners around Connaught Place.

The police monitored foot traffic in this area through live video footage transmitted from the hired drones. Hence, they can prevent revelers from making the roads too crowded and jammed.
2. Cameras
Reports say that by 2020, the police force in Delhi will also get equipped with body cameras, which are attached to the policemen’s bodies. Mostly, this kind of cams are used at crime scenes, and they also help monitor the level and quality of police work.

It is likely that the Department has already got 880 body cameras ready, set to be implemented shortly.
Under the project called Safe City, the police are setting up 10,000 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, which is sponsored by the Nirbhaya Fund.
3. Facial Recognition and Advanced Forensics
To aid police work, there have been several upgrades and initiatives relating to data handling.
OSINT (Open-source intelligence) is a strategic initiative that Delhi Police uses to assist the process of investigation by using digital data analysis to make actionable intelligence available.

Additionally, ANPR (Automatic number plate recognition) is a source of information that can provide data on types and numbers of vehicles in various places.
Regarding facial recognition, a police officer said it would be useful in case of remote suspect verification, tracing missing children, security suspect identification, as well as tracking and locating fugitives.
4.Mobile App

Delhi police officers will also use the e-beat book that is a mobile app used for patrolling at night and monitoring police’s daily performance, with the ultimate goal to improve beat policing. Chennai started using this system four years ago.
