The audition for season 2 took place in early October 2018, including the best 22 applicants coming to the main Comicstaan set in Mumbai. They had to submit an application to the show’s website, then the shortlisted candidates to submit themselves for background checks. The best candidate from the shorted list came to Mumbai to have an audition for the judges. After discussion, the judges chose the 22 best candidates, then took another 8 hours of grueling debate to select the 10 best candidates.

During the competition, the 10 best candidates had to go through 7 rounds, performing to get a slot in the grand finale. Over the rounds, contestants had to perform in various comedy genres including alternative comedy, comedy of terrors, sketch, improv, observational, topical, and anecdotal. The difference of this show from others is that all contestants are not eliminated until the 7th round.

Before performing in each round, the contestants were mentored by one judge specialized in the respective genre. They had one week for preparation of fresh material and practice before performing live in front of the judges and audience. After performing, the contestants received a score ranging from 1 to 10 from the judges and audience, except for the mentor of that round, including the average score from the audience and the average score from the judges. The judges gave them feedback before revealing the score. The 5 contestants with the highest aggregated scores after 7 rounds will get a spot in the grand finale.

In the grand finale, the 5 best contestants performed one of the 7 comedy genres along with a combination of them. Who got the highest score won the entire competition with Rs 10,00,000.
