Bill Gates Is Not Buying A Hydrogen-Powered Yacht

On its home page, Sinot has updated that the rumor of Gates buying the hydrogen-powered yacht is “incorrect.” There isn’t any business link between the two.

Bill Gates is known for his concerns about environmental issues, spending money on clean technology. Recently, there was a rumor saying that Gates had pre-ordered a Sinot Aqua that costs $644 million. This is the world's first hydrogen-powered yacht.

Sinot Yacht — This is the first yacht in the world to be powered by clean energy hydrogen.

The yacht is 112 meters long and can accommodate 14 guests and 31 crew members. It even has a gym onboard. The yacht has two 1MW motors that are powered by supercooled hydrogen tanks.

Instead of using coal or wood to keep the passengers warm outside when they are on the deck, Sinot uses gel-based fire bowls. With a top speed of 17 knots, the yacht isn’t a fast mover. However, its range of 3,750 miles should be enough for traveling across the vast ocean.

Running on clean energy but the vessel isn’t completely eco-friendly. As it is rare to find dockside hydrogen filling stations, the Aqua still has a diesel engine backup so that it can reach port.

When being asked about the acquisition of the hydrogen-powered yacht, the Gates Foundation, as well as Gates Ventures, declined to comment.

It isn’t until 2024 can Aqua starts to operate. At the moment, the company behind the yacht is under criticism. Some say that with such amount of money, consumers should have bought something that is more optimal, more “green” instead of something just for enjoyment.
