A Startup Created An Anti-Bacterial Underwear You Can Wear For Weeks Without Washing

Inspired by a technology used by NASA, four guys from a Danish startup invented anti-bacterial underwear that doesn’t require to be washed every single day.

You want to wear the same underwear for weeks without having to wash it? We have a new invention for you. Inspired by a technology used by NASA to help astronauts stay healthy in faraway space, four guys from a Danish startup invents underwear that doesn’t require to be washed every single day.

Research from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation stated that, by 20150, the textile industry will generate 26 percent of the total global emission. That will impact the environment significant for something you just wear.

To go against this trend, a startup based in Denmark called Organic Basics decided to make use of 100% recycled product to create sustainable clothing. That’s how they formed the idea of a no-wash, long-lasting pair of underwear.

In case you are wondering if this underwear looks like something from a sci-fi novel, it seems nothing out of the ordinary. As stated by the company, the magic material of the underwear is silver, a natural anti-microbial.

Due to silver’s anti-bacterial ability, it is used by NASA to purify and disinfect water for its astronauts up on the International Space Station.

These underpants are then coated in the same silver so that they can fight off bacteria for a longer period compared to ordinary underwear. With this, you can wear the underwear for a few weeks or even longer if you want.

However, a reporter from New York magazine stated that she discovered a not really fresh scent the second day wearing it. A male colleague of her also decided to toss his pair of boxer briefs in the laundry after 48 hours.

Organic Basics claimed that trying to help people avoid laundry day is not their original idea. Fibiger, the company CEO said to Business Insider that:

Washing your clothes and drying them need water as well as energy. So the more you wash your clothes, the greater the environment is impacted.

However, even the environmental benefits still can’t convince even the environmentalists to commit to wearing this underwear.
