Evidence suggests that an individual with mathematical ability might have a successful career. Many people think that you’re either good or bad at maths. But studies indicate that kids, at a young age, have a large capacity to learn maths. But they aren’t given the chance to do so. Even teachers underestimate their ability to learn maths.
Researchers pointed out in one study how there are many high achievers with great maths score in the SATs have a doctorate. An above-average ability in maths can be beneficial for one’s career. Thus children should be encouraged to study maths from a young age.
If children aren’t exposed to the subject at a young age, this can impact their career massively.
A survey with the participation of 613 women and 1037 men was carried out to understand how mathematical ability can ensure a successful career. Among the participants, 4.1% of them worked major research universities. 23% were top executives while 24% were attorneys. 25% to 40% had a doctorate. 25% of the students wrote and published 7572 academic articles. 8% secured 681 patents.
The US Chamber of Commerce Foundation, through their studies, found that the market’s best-paying, fastest-growing jobs are STEM-related jobs. By 2022, all STEM-related jobs including information technology, banking and finance, construction and health care are predicted to grow to more than 9 million.
The average base annual salary of a computer scientist is $70,000. Meanwhile, a mechanical engineer makes $68,000 a year. An individual with a nursing degree earns about $59,000 a year as a base salary. Base salaries don’t include bonuses, benefits, and other compensations.
Non-STEM field sees an increase in demand for skills related to STEM. STEM grads can earn an average salary of $103,408.
