In the past year, we have experienced how gadgets and online services are increasingly adopted in our lives. But even with this digital transformation, we may still find some tech-powered innovations that look like they come out of a sci-fi movie.

People in Dubai can use their smartphones for basically everything from shopping to paying for bills. But now, a salon has come up with a microchip manicure that allows customers to store secret data, called Smart Nail.

A salon has come up with a microchip manicure that allows customers to store secret data, called Smart Nail.

The tiny chips are concealed and protected under nail paint. Just by touching your smartphone with the chip, you can transfer the data from your phone to it.

According to Lanour Beauty Lounge, Smarty Nail uses near field communication (NFC), a short-range wireless tech designed to make smartphones, tablets, wearables, payment cards, and other electronic devices smarter.

It is impossible to track the chip since it is a passive device. And it can only be read within 1-2 cm range. So it is a super discreet way to carry around your personal as well as professional information including your Instagram and LinkedIn accounts.

Of course, at the moment, the data storage capacity of the chip is still quite small. However, the CEO of Lanour Beauty Lounge, Nour Nakarem hops that with the advancement of technology in the future, his idea can be further developed, to the point where users can touch their nails to pay bills, share menus, and convey information. A set of Smart Nail starts at nearly $70 and can be worn for three weeks.
