Samsung Has Canceled Galaxy Fold Launch Events In China

Samsung has reportedly delayed the launch event of its Galaxy Fold in Hong Kong and Shanghai which are set to take place on April 23 and 24.

Samsung has reportedly delayed the launch event of its Galaxy Fold in Shanghai and Hong Kong, according to a post from the editor-in-chief of Engadget Chinese and SamMobile Richard Lai on Twitter.

The Galaxy Fold.

As reported by SamMobile, a source familiar with the matter informed that the Korean phone maker is blaming the delays on venue issues, which a frequent tipster claimed to be true. Meanwhile, Lai’s tweet didn’t reveal any information like that, only stating that the events on April 23 and April 24 were canceled. Gizmodo contacted Samsung about this matter but haven’t got any replies.

Samsung Galaxy Fold, which is among the very first foldable smartphones to enter the market, has received negative reviews for breaking after just a couple days of use. Notably, reporters from major publications like Bloomberg, the Verge, and CNBC all had the troubles, ranging from the flickering displays and hinge bulges to the phone’s protective film that looks like removable as in regular phone packaging but in fact, was meant to stick with the device for it prevents the phone from breaking.

The protective film was not meant to be removed

However, Gizmodo did not undergo any of the issues mentioned above while TechCrunch’s review indicates the strong performance of the Galaxy Fold.

Talking to Gizmodo, Samsung said that it was looking to figure out what caused the technical issues. It added that removing the protective film leads to a separate issue that it had already warned users.

Still, the company sold out all of its available devices on its website, according to its statement, without revealing the number of units on sale. Samsung also noted that the launch event set for April 26 in the US will take place as scheduled. Besides, as separately reported by CNN, the fact that Samsung is not changing its launching timeline probably means it believes that the problems reviewed are “isolated incidents” and launching its new foldable technology as a separate device instead of a new feature on its flagship lineup reduces the risk of similar events to the Galaxy Note 7’s past flaming-battery.

While the delay of Galaxy Fold launch event may have nothing to do with its clear fragility, rivals are slowing down, like Huawei won’t launch its Mate X till this fall, according to the Wall Street Journal.
