Rumors of the Galaxy A01 first surfaced about two months ago, when some of the device's specs were revealed via the benchmarking database Geekbench. A different source suggested that the handset would be sold under the official name Galaxy A5. At the time, the Galaxy A01 appeared on Geekbench as a Qualcomm reference phone, so many thought it was not a device that would be commercialized. However, it seems like those speculations were incorrect and Samsung will introduce it in the future.
Galaxy A01 appears to be an ODM product, which means that it is a device that uses the Samsung brand but is manufactured by another company. For example, the Galaxy A10s is manufactured by Jiaxing Yongrui Electron Technology Company in China, but it was announced under the Samsung brand.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy A01 is manufactured by Huaqin Telecom, a company based in Shanghai (this company also specializes in manufacturing equipment for Huawei).
The purpose of the ODM smartphone is for Samsung to reduce production costs and provide devices at a lower price. Currently, the official selling price of Galaxy A01 has not been disclosed yet.
Certification from the FCC shows that the Galaxy A01 will have a 3000 mAh battery, dual rear cameras, and a 5.7-inch screen. According to the Geekbench listing, it will also pack an octa-core Qualcomm processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and Android 10 pre-loaded. It will likely be introduced over the next few months with color options including Blue, Black, and Red.
In addition, the A01 should not be the only smartphone that will be introduced in the Galaxy A series in 2020. For now, we have also heard a few things about the Galaxy A51, which is tipped to feature a hole-punch display like the Galaxy Note 10 and a quad-camera system stacked in a rectangular module similar to the iPhone 11 Pro.
