Samsung has finally gone official with its rugged phone after details of it were leaked on the company’s Finnish site. The phone will go under the name Galaxy XCover Pro, and it is built like a tank to be taken along with field workers.
The phone will be available in the U.S shortly, priced at $499 (around Rs. 39,690 in India). Interested buyers can find the phone on the company’s official website.
As a rugged phone, the Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro’s cover is so thick that it can survive from falling up to five feet (around 1.5 meters), an altitude that will surely break other smartphones.
It is MIL-STD 810G certified and has IP68 water and dust resistant rating so the Galaxy XCover Pro will not die when you take it somewhere with a high altitude or temperature.
Another benefit users of this rugged phone will enjoy is the removable battery. Users can purchase extra 4,050mAh batteries for the phone separately and switch when there is no power socket or a charger around. The phone also has a 15W fast charging function.
The Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro also has some pogo pins with it so you can add in accessories like scanners or card readers. The handset is EMV Level 1 certified so it can be used as a POS terminal to accept payments from phones, watches, and credit cards.
Hardware-wise, the phone’s specs are what you might expect on a mid-range handset. The 1080p screen measures 6.3 inches and it still reacts if you are wearing gloves or when your fingers are wet. Other features include a 2GHz octa-core Samsung Exynos 9611 chipset, RAM of 4GB, onboard storage of 64GB, and Android 10.
On the rear, there is a double camera setup, consisting of a 25-megapixel sensor as well as an 8-megapixel snapper. On the other side, users can take a selfie with the 13MP camera as well.
The Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro also comes equipped with two programmable buttons and a fingerprint sensor.
