Realme Follows Xiaomi To Show Ads On Its Phones, Here Is How To Disable Them

Xiaomi’s MIUI has been getting a lot of complaints about having too many ads everywhere. Despite getting many complaints, it seems like keeping ads in its software UI is so profitable as the brand doesn’t have any plan to remove it. Now, another Chinese company is about to follow Xiaomi, and it is Realme.

Realme, Oppo’s sub-brand, is one of Xiaomi’s biggest rivals in the budget segment and it has been doing great so far. Now, the brand announces that it will introduce ads in its UI, but it will only do that to the version in India. However, the company doesn’t directly announce to implement ads, but sneakily call it “commercial content recommendation.

All of the Realme smartphones running ColorOS 6.0 and above will get an update that enables the ads, which will only appear in the Security Check page after you install a new app or in the Phone Manager App. According to Realme, the ad system will “ensure the protection of your privacy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations".

Fortunately, if you don’t like this new system, Realme still offers a very simple way to turn them off for good though it didn’t mention that in the announcement. However, that is still better than Xiaomi, who didn’t even offer one in the first place. 

Here is how to do so: Go to Settings -> tap Additional Settings -> tap Get recommendations then switch that to off. 

That being said, we are not sure whether this is only the beta stage of this system and whether or not the ad placement will be more annoying in the next updates. In its official statement, Realme implies that this new ad system is necessary for it to keep the business model sustainable and healthy.
