Pixel 4 Will Not Come With Included Earbuds, Which Is Actually A Good Thing

Google has good reasons not to include a pair of earbuds with the package of Pixel 4. And their decision is backed by statistics and analysis

The Pixel 4 does not come with earbuds in the box, 3.5mm headphone adapter, and headphone jack, which are all the accessories users are expecting to get by default when they buy any smartphone. Before you feel outraged, here are some bright sides to this too.

Over the last few years, we have got ourselves used to the fact that manufacturers will give us all of the hardware we need to run a smartphone in one box, including a pair of earbuds, a USB cord connected to or separate from a wall charger.

Pixel 4 and 4 XL will not have a pair of earbuds shipped with them in the same package

Earbuds have been included in the package in the last ten years, so it comes as no surprise that people always expect to see a pair when they open the smartphone box. However, it appears that Google has seen an opportunity to remove them from the package of Pixel 4 and 4 XL.

Apple has made the same decision before, and given the fact that it is among the largest phone manufacturers in the world, and that they release highly sought-after devices every year, there should be good reasons for the decision.

Smartphone manufacturers all over the globe will, or should, stop shipping earbuds with their smartphones, tablets, or any other handled devices soon, following the footsteps of major players like Apple and now Google. Smartphones have seen massive growth in popularity in the past decade, especially in the last few years, resulting in a huge number of earbuds releasing to the market.

Most users want to but extra headphones or earbuds even when they have already had a pair shipped with the device with no extra cost in the same package

According to the above chart, made public on the 7th of October 2019, from Statista’s Shanhong Liu, most users want to but extra headphones or earbuds even when they have already had a pair shipped with the device with no extra cost in the same package. Users are requiring more and more from the devices, laying down higher standards than what the pair accompanied the smartphones can meet.

Smartphones being shipped with earbuds in the same box means that users do not consider the experience they have with the pair vital enough to bother going out shopping for a pair that can offer certain features. Microsoft, Apple, and Google are making new and innovative headphones every year, and they prove to be a good sell, meaning users do care about sound quality. So it makes no sense to put a pair of extra earbuds in the box with the smartphones.

Including earbuds in the package is not too expensive and manufacturers do not exactly need more space in the box, the main reason here is that why do they need to do something that will not bring any particular benefit.

The best possible advantage of having a pair of earbuds with a smartphone is to save those who do not care much about the latest technology in headphones some time going out buying one. The worst scenario is that the earbuds will take the extra room in the box, create more tasks to do for those who have to assemble them, and waste the energy and time which would otherwise be better spent on making better smartphones.

While some users will still love a headphone jack and a pair of earbuds with no extra cost with the Pixel 4, we will have to put up with the fact that more and more manufacturers will ditch them.
