Microsoft Surface Duo Spotted In The Wild In A New Video

Last year saw Microsoft introducing its first-ever foldable device, the Surface Duo. However, it said nothing about the software that powers the device. Meanwhile, another handset which is reportedly the Microsoft Surface Duo itself has been spotted in the wild.

The device was seen being used on the SkyTrain in Vancouver. That handset looks exactly like what Microsoft showed in October. Some people project that the device will feature flash on the front.

The video also shows how Android runs on the device and how it changes when the user switches from using one display to dual screens. We can see the user ran a game on one display of the Surface Duo and then he swiped away before opening Outlook for Android. While the gesture animations seem unfinished, it appears that the user was able to use two apps side by side.

We can also see how the Surface Duo opens apps in what Microsoft dubbed the extended canvas mode. The mode is not the default and the user will have to specifically choose to launch it. The standard appearance is apps open on each single display.

For the reason why we get to see the Surface Duo out in the wild, it might be because some developers have had the chance to test apps on the real devices.

To prepare for the launch of the Surface Duo, Microsoft has sent detailed guidelines to developers and Android emulators. From what we can make out from the video, the device is pretty much a work in progress at this point.
