LG Wants To Sell A Million Smartphones Of Its W Series In India By Year End

India is a highly competitive market for smartphone makers and the next in line to bet on the country is LG with its India-first "W" series

India is a highly competitive market for smartphone makers, and the next in line to bet on the country is LG. What it does was to launch a W series. The aim here is to gain a two-digit share in two years. The series will have five devices, launched online through a collaboration with Amazon.in. For this year, LG wants around one million smartphones sold.

Bringing other models from its global portfolio to the country, LG will have to compete against giants like Samsung and Xiaomi.

He also shared that the first two smartphones of the series would be launched in July, another one in August, and two more sometime around Diwali.

The whole W series will be made locally and has the price somewhere between Rs 8,000-15,000.

IDC, a research firm, revealed that the Indian smartphone market enjoyed a growth of more than 7% each year, reaching 32.1 million devices in the first quarter of 2019.

The market leaders now are Xiaomi with 30.6%, Samsung with 22.3%, Vivo accounts for 13%, Oppo makes up 7.6%, and Realme with 6%.

When asked about LG’s focus, Vaidya said that the company aimed at the youth.

He did not elaborate on the budget for marketing, but he said that it would spend where necessary.

LG focuses the online channel, just like Samsung. The year 2019 saw the latter company released the India-first “M” series that is distributed via Amazon.

Experts estimated that around 30% of the country’s smartphones were through online channels.
