Indian 4G Tablet Market Rose By 62 Percent In Q1 2019

The CyberMedia's report suggests that the combined revenue of the tablets costing Rs. 10,000 - Rs. 20,000 rose by 28 percent quarter-over-quarter in Q1 2019.

In recent years, tablet revenue has witnessed a sharp decline due to the increase in smartphone display size. However, CyberMedia Research’s latest report shows that the Indian 4G tablet market surprisingly grew by 62% in Q1 2019 although the general tablet market has gone down by 11% over the same period last year.

And Lenovo seems to stand outside the effect of this trend since it was still the biggest vendor of tablet in India with a 29% share. Followed Lenovo are the South Korean tech giant Samsung and iBall sharing the second place in the Indian 4G tablet market with the same 17% market share. However, the exact figures of shipments for these OEMs were not mentioned in the report.

Indian Tablet Market Share
Lenovo leads the 4G tablet market in India with a 29 percent market share, followed by Samsung, iBall, and Apple.

Moreover, according to the report, the combined revenue of tablets priced in the Rs. 10,000 – Rs. 20,000 range has risen by 28% in the first quarter of this year over the previous quarter. And Lenovo still holds the leading position with a huge 90% share in the Indian 4G tablet market. Menka Kumari, Analyst-IIG, CMR, said:

Furthermore, the trend of tablet shipment healthy growth is also expected to continue in the next quarter this year due to the progress from 3G toward 4G.

As per CMS’s New Initiatives’ Manager, Kanika Jain, smartphones and ultrabooks are the causes of the decrease in the tablet shipments. It is known that tablets are sandwiched between smartphones and ultrabooks. While the smartphones’ affordability and the increasing display size are the major reasons for the decrease of the tablet market, ultrabooks with better RAM and chipset are fiercely competing with tablets as well.
