Apple Will Start Assembling iPhone X Series In India, Creating 25,000 More Jobs

News revealed that Foxconn's factory in India will start assembling the iPhone X series in India from 2019.

It looks like Apple has finally decided to start making iPhone locally in India.

The tech giant will reportedly begin its assembly for the iPhone models in India, which is likely to take place in Foxconn’s factory based in Chennai from 2019. Reuters reported that starting 2019, Foxconn will assemble Apple’s latest iPhone models, the iPhone X series. However, it is not likely that the iPhone XR will be included in this plan as Apple previously announced to discontinue this model.

Nevertheless, we don’ know for sure if Foxconn will assemble the phones only, or the plan will involve producing any component.

Also, earlier this week, the Hindu reported that on Monday, the Tamil Nadu cabinet – chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswani, was informed that the production of Apple’s new iPhones will be located in a separate unit of Foxconn’s current factory based in Sriperumbudur. It was also announced by M C Sampath, Industry Minister of Tamil Nadu, that Foxconn will make an investment of Rs 25 billion to expand its factory.

Currently, Foxconn is producing phones for Xiaomi Corp, and with this new business with the iPhone maker, the company is likely to create 25,000 new jobs for Indians.

At present, Apple Inc only has its older and cheaper models – the iPhone 6S and iPhone SE – assembled in India, via Wistron Corp’s plant based in Bengaluru.

There were no comments from both Foxconn and Apple about this information. Though, Reuters also said it is not sure if Apple will move any of its current iPhone’s assembly from other factories in China and places.

Previously, Foxconn showed its worries about the decreasing demand for iPhones, and this may also be the reason why Apple is splitting its production to other locations rather than focusing everything in China.

It has recently been revealed that Apple has got a new patent published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent displays Apple's technology for a foldable iPhone, and it's likely that the phone can be folded inwards and outwards.
