Apple Has Not Given Up On The Idea Of A Wrap-Around iPhone

Apple has filed a continuation patent for the wrap-around display for iPhone as well as adding some new information

We have heard rumors of Apple working on a wrap-around iPhone for many years. And recently, an updated patent shows that the iPhone maker has no intention of giving up on this idea. However, at this rate, we will not see the design makes it to reality in time for the release of the iPhone 12.

According to Patently Apple, the company has filed a continuation patent for the wrap-around display. The company added some new information on the current patent and changed some logged details.

The design is not something new, but the fact that Apple registers a continuation patent suggests the company’s interests in the design have not waned. However, it is possible that Apple will give up on the idea in favor of a more interesting one. We never know.

Apple adds more information on the "continuous loop" of the display that can wrap around the device. So, in other words, the screen will work on both the front and the back of the phone.

The iPhone maker is not the only company that is looking into ways to innovate the traditional metal-and-glass design we have get used to for years. Xiaomi also has a wrap-around smartphone, which is the Xiaomi Mi Mix. However, for now, it is still a concept device.

It is still the time of early adopters, so these bendable smartphones will definitely show some hiccups. Apple has long been cautious when it comes to releasing new hardware, so we may not see an iPhone with a totally new concept until the company is sure that the design is ready to be released to the public.

Samsung, apart from the Galaxy Fold, has also been working on a similar concept.

However, it is highly unlikely that we will see the wrap-around technology on the 2020’s iPhones. Another rumor that has a higher chance of happening is the 120 Hz refresh rate screen.
